A Summer Greeting from the Port CEO

The calendar tells us it's summer. You can feel it all around. It's a very special period that repeats itself every year, yet comes as a surprise to most of us.
Suddenly, six months have passed. Where did the time go?
There is little doubt that right now we are in the midst of a special time. Some even call it a fateful and defining moment.
In any case, we are witnessing a time when changeability is arguably the greatest constant.
All of which affects us and the business community. All of which is something we have to try to navigate in and after.
Significantly more containers for Aarhus
We are off to an incredibly good start to 2025. Container turnover in particular has increased significantly during the first months of the year compared to last year. We expect the progress to continue into the autumn.
In the month of May alone, we reached an increase of over 30 percent. And in week 22, a new record was set for the number of containers handled in a single week. 19,127 TEU.
I would like to say thank you for the great effort on the container terminal. Well done.
The increasing container turnover reminds us that we are part of the global supply chain. Because although we have welcomed new container routes, it is especially the global uncertainties and changes that send more containers to Aarhus.
But it underlines that we as a port must be able to secure supply at all times regardless of the circumstances. That is a core task for us.
We kick off the completion of the Omniterminal
Soon the final part of the Omniterterminal will be completed.
This is a project that has been many years in the making. Now we have finally got there where we can start completing the quay with a doubling of 430 metres.
It is another step on the road to creating another attractive area at the port.
And with the plans for a new container terminal, it will create even more opportunities for Danish business and not least strengthen security of supply.
Danish parliament gives green light to Marselis Tunnel
Another project that has been underway for years is the tunnel under Marselis Boulevard.
Now a broad majority in the Danish Parliament has finally passed a bill that will allow it to get started on establishing the tunnel.
It is a great recognition of the port's national importance and not least the efforts of the business community.
There have been many involved and engaged people over many years to whom I would like to send a special thank you.
Now it is about us, together with the Road Directorate and Aarhus Municipality, ensuring the best possible business infrastructure around the tunnel.
New onshore power plant on the way to Aarhus
This spring we were able to present an agreement for a new onshore power plant for container ships.
This means that by next year we will be able to offer the container ships to connect to shore power so that they can switch off the diesel generators.
It is an important contribution to reducing both noise and local particulate pollution.
I am pleased that we are also able to take the lead in this area.
The second half of 2025 will undoubtedly also be a changeable one of its kind.
There are many exciting things in store.
I look forward to continued good cooperation with colleagues, the business community, citizens and all our partners.
Have a great summer.
