Container shipping company introduces new route and strengthens connection between Aarhus and the Baltics

This week, CMA CGM MERMAID entered the port of Aarhus for the first time. The ship sails CMA CGM's new container route, SSLEUR BALTICEXPRESS, which connects Aarhus even better with Germany and the Baltic States.
In the future, the ship will regularly sail between Aarhus, Klaipėda, Riga, Gdansk, Bremerhaven and Hamburg with up to 2000 TEU at a time (TEU = 20-foot containers).
When our links to the ports of the Baltic Sea become even stronger, it gives business more opportunities. It ultimately benefits all of us. I am happy that the cargo now has another way forward. It strengthens security of supply in an otherwise uncertain time,
says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO at the Port of Aarhus.

French CMA CGM is the world's third largest container shipping company and they sail all over the world. And although Denmark is a small country, it is an important stop on the new route.
Aarhus will always be an important port for CMA CGM. Both worldwide, but also seen with Scandinavian eyes,
says Morten Neve Jensen, Short Sea Director Denmark at the shipping company.
CMA CGM MERMAID was put into the water in September last year and is thus completely new.
The ship is operating on LNG, which stands for Liquefied Natural Gas. The shipping company primarily refuels the gas in Bremerhaven.
“This is part of CMA CGM's overall strategy to be among the leaders when it comes to the green transition, which is a very important strategy for us. We have many and good experiences with LNG container ships,” says Morten Neve Jensen.
The new route takes 14 days to sail and two ships are on it. As a result, one of them will enter APM Terminals' container terminal in Aarhus every week.
