The construction of the Marselis Tunnel is approved: A recognition of the importance of the port

A broad majority in the Danish Parliament has passed a bill allowing the establishing of the tunnel under Marselis Boulevard.
Behind the agreement are the Socialdemokratiet, Venstre, Moderaterne, SF, Radikale Venstre, Konservative, Liberal Alliance, Danmarksdemokraterne and Dansk Folkeparti.
We are very pleased that a broad majority in the Danish Parliament has given the green light to the Marselis Tunnel, and that we can now get started on the project, which has been a long time in the making. It is a great recognition of the port's national importance and the efforts of the business community to secure the Danish supply. The tunnel is important for future-proofing efficient transport to and from the port. Thank you to the many people involved, not least the Minister of Transport and the Danish Parliament for their work. We are now working together with the Danish Road Directorate and Aarhus Municipality to ensure the best possible infrastructure around the tunnel,
says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of the Port of Aarhus.
The Port of Aarhus is a major hub for freight transport, and among other things 3500 trucks pass by the road every day.
The Marselis Tunnel will provide a more direct road link for traffic, which means less traffic noise and heavy traffic through the city. And at the same time, the project provides completely new green spaces.
The transport industry is great importance to our society, ensuring goods in stores, materials for factories and that Danish goods are released into the world. With the Marselis Tunnel, traffic between the port and the motorway network gets a good, fast connection, and Aarhusians get less traffic through the city and urban spaces they can make their own,
says Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen.
Construction work will start in 2028 and the first trucks are expected to be able to travel through the tunnel by 2035.
