New diving platform opened in attractive diving area at the port of Aarhus

Aarhus has become a diving platform richer in an attractive diving area.
The Port of Aarhus has established a new diving platform to the right of the Molslinjen ferry port, which is free to use for all citizens interested in diving.
The location is not accidental, as the Danish Sports Diving Federation has helped to designate it. Experienced local divers like Niels-Søren Bøgh believe that the area has one of the best deposits of biodiversity that exists in Aarhus Bay.
The challenge, however, has for years been the actual access to the unique diving area.
“We are very happy about the new diving platform, because for a long time we have had a desire to make the place more accessible for beginners, junior divers and people with disabilities, but also everyone else who wants to dive at this unique location. That's why we thought about it and came up with the idea for the Port of Aarhus,” says Niels-Søren Bøgh, who in addition to being an experienced diver is also a representative of the Danish Sports Diver Federation and teaches diving.

From idea to reality
Niels-Søren Bøgh and the Danish Sports Diver Federation approached the Port of Aarhus with the idea in spring 2024. Although the Port of Aarhus had not thought of a new diver platform, the idea was so good that the port ended up financing the project itself.
“Although the port area is primarily a workplace, which for most people is a closed area, there are also areas where we can open and cultivate the neighborhood between the port and the townspeople. The diving platform is an example of the good neighbourliness, which is so important. We are delighted that the idea of the platform has become a reality, so that even more citizens can enjoy the area,” says Daniel Møller Jensen, Head of Communications & Press at the Port of Aarhus.

“We are really looking forward to using the platform, and we are extremely pleased with Aarhus Port's approach to the project. This is proof that the harbour and recreational areas can live side by side in certain cases, so that we can enjoy an area where biodiversity is good,” says Niels-Søren Bøgh.
The diving platform is funded by the Port of Aarhus and is located at the end of Færgevej on the harbour. The platform is reserved for divers and therefore bathing or fishing is not permitted from the platform.
The platform was inaugurated on Thursday 26 June with speeches and the cutting of a red string, after which the divers went into the water from the new platform.
