Port of Aarhus Strengthens Its Position as a Key Northern European Gateway with Record Container Volumes

Despite a year marked by geopolitical uncertainty and global challenges, container traffic to and from Aarhus reached new heights.
A total of 843,665 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) were handled at the container terminal, operated by APM Terminals. This represents an increase of nearly 28 percent compared to 2024.
I am pleased with these historic results, achieved by skilled employees in close collaboration with the terminal operator and the companies operating on and around the port. It underlines that the Port of Aarhus is an attractive port and a vital hub for cargo and logistics – not only in Denmark, but also in a European context,
says Kåre Clemmesen, Interim CEO of Port of Aarhus.

In 2025, several major European ports experienced extraordinary capacity challenges. This has contributed, among other things, to a higher number of containers being routed via Aarhus.
Several major European ports have faced capacity constraints, increasing the demand for alternative gateways. In Aarhus, we offer a robust and competitive product. This has resulted in Port of Aarhus receiving more transit containers than ever before. At the same time, our already strong route network has been expanded with new services and vessels,
explains Kåre Clemmesen.
The strong growth in container volumes is also reflected in the total cargo throughput, which reached 11,340,708 tonnes in 2025 – an increase of nearly 14 percent compared to the previous year.
