The Port of Aarhus begins construction of 430-metre quay

The Port of Aarhus has just signed a contract with MT Højgaard Danmark to complete the quay at the area that is known as the Omniterminal.
This marks the first step towards making part of the terminal ready to handle containers. The area has already been leased to the global shipping company MSC and its terminal operator, Terminal Investment Limited, who plan to establish a container terminal there.
“We received strong interest from various contractors, and we’re pleased to have signed an agreement with MT Højgaard Danmark to complete the quay at the Omniterminal. There’s no doubt that this is an important step towards creating yet another attractive terminal area at the port. The plans for a new container terminal will create more opportunities for Danish businesses and, crucially, strengthen supply chain security – benefiting both Aarhus and Denmark as a whole,” says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of the Port of Aarhus.
Earlier this year, the Danish Transport Authority granted permission to construct the quay. The project then went out to tender, with MT Højgaard Danmark ultimately selected to take on the role of main contractor for the 430-metre quay, which will have a water depth of 14 metres.
“We’re delighted to have won this project for the Port of Aarhus, which will help establish another attractive terminal area. Our skilled marine construction team will carry out the work – their expertise is a perfect fit for this task. We’re looking forward to getting started and continuing our strong working relationship with the Port of Aarhus, which we’ve built through previous projects,” says Carsten Lund, CEO of MT Højgaard Danmark.
Construction of the quay is expected to begin shortly after the summer and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
