High activity leads Denmark’s largest commercial port to raise its expectations

Despite global uncertainty, the first half of 2026 has been characterised by a high level of activity in the Danish and international business community. As a central part of international supply chains, Port of Aarhus has also felt this development, contributing to a strong first half of 2026 that has exceeded the expectations.
“The first half of the year has been characterised by a high level of activity among businesses and our customers, and we can clearly feel that at the Port of Aarhus. We have handled larger cargo volumes than expected while maintaining efficient and competitive operations. This is particularly important at a time of considerable global uncertainty, when stable and well-functioning supply chains are crucial for Danish businesses and Denmark’s security of supply,” says Ulrik Andersen, CEO of Port of Aarhus.
Following the first six months of 2026, the Port of Aarhus achieved revenue of more than EUR 27.1million (DKK 202 million), with EBIT amounting to EUR 7.6 million (DKK 57million). The result for the first half of the year amounts to 11.9 million (DKK89 million).
The solid start to 2026 has led Port of Aarhus to raise its expectations for the full-year result with EUR 4.4 million (DKK 33 million).

The adjustment is primarily the result of the port’s total cargo throughput having grown by 3.3 per cent compared with the first half of 2025, which was an extraordinary year.
“The raised expectations are first and foremost the result of a high level of activity in and around the port. We are seeing growth in both container cargo and bulk cargo, while several shipping lines have added additional routes to and from Aarhus. Container imports in particular have developed better than expected, while imports of dry bulk, not least feed products, have also increased significantly as a result of the consolidation and increased investments in Aarhus currently taking place within the industry,” says Ulrik Andersen.
The increasing level of activity is placing greater pressure on quays, port areas and the infrastructure surrounding the Port of Aarhus. This is why a strong financial foundation is particularly important for the port at a time when it is preparing to invest more than EUR 241 million (DKK 1.8 billion) by 2030.
“The strong results underline the need for a strong and competitive port in Aarhus. But growth also places demand on us. As activity increases, we must be able to keep pace in terms of quays, port areas and infrastructure. That is why we are making significant investments in the years ahead: in capacity, safety and emergency preparedness, the green transition, and in the people who will operate the port. Ultimately, this is about securing strong supply chains and creating the best possible framework for Danish businesses,” says Ulrik Andersen.
