Denmark’s largest commercial port delivers its best quarter ever with a new container record
It has been a record-breaking year for the Port of Aarhus, with container growth of 27 percent in the first nine months of the year. Now, in the third quarter of the year, the Port of Aarhus has achieved the highest container turnover ever in the port's history.

Growth in container traffic at Denmark’s largest commercial port has reached new heights.
The third quarter of the year is the best quarter ever in the Port of Aarhus’ 180-year history, measured by container turnover.
In July, August and September, 262,301 TEU (20-foot containers) were handled in Aarhus. Compared to the same period last year, this is a growth of 51 percent.
- Of course, I welcome the historic increase incontainer traffic. This is a result of the fact that our already strong route network has been continuously expanded with new routes and ships, the geopolitical situation is sending more containers to Aarhus, and that we are increasingly seeing Aarhus as an important hub for transit containers in Europe, says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Aarhus Port, and continues:
- The significant increase in containers being handled at the port comes during a period when we traditionally experience high activity in the run-up to Christmas and New Year. It puts a lot of pressure on us, on the terminal operator and on the many people involved. We are doing everything we can to continue to deliver a competitive operation and high efficiency, so that together we ensure the supply to Danes and the Danish business community.
The growth in container turnover is also reflected inthe overall freight turnover.
In the third quarter, a total of 3,174,230 tons ofcargo were handled. Compared to the third quarter of 2024, that's a growth of25 percent.
