A World-Class Cruise Destination

With Denmark’s first shore power facility for cruise ships, a semi urban cruise quay with efficient facilities, and lots of cultural experiences just around the corner, Aarhus is an obvious stop on the journey.

The cruise ship AIDA Bella docks at Balticagade at Aarhus Harbour.

First Shore Power for Cruise Ships

In the summer of 2023, Port of Aarhus inaugurated Denmark's first shore power facility for cruise ships. Thanks to the shore power facility, cruise ships can turn off their diesel engines and instead supply the ship with green power directly from Danish wind turbines while docked.

2024 was the first full season where cruise ships docking in Aarhus could turn off their engines and switch to green power. 68 percent of them who docked in Aarhus did so.

Aarhus is Worth the Visit

At the semi urban cruise quay, Port of Aarhus welcomes thousands of cruise guests to the “City of Smiles,” Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city, every year.

Aarhus is characterized by its rich cultural offerings, beautiful nature, cozy city centre, exciting architecture, well-stocked specialty shops, and numerous restaurants, cafés, bakeries, as well as wine and coffee bars.

Besides the cruise quay, vessels can also dock at the Omni Terminal, where the depth of water is 13.5 meters.

Anne Zachariassen, COO at Port of Aarhus, explains the shore power facility that can supply cruise ships with green power from Danish wind turbines while docked at the cruise quay.
