New times. New opportunities.

We aim to create the sustainable port of the future, where businesses can thrive in a changing world.

In 1845, the Port of Aarhus emerged from the river. Much has changed since then. Today, we are Denmark's largest commercial port. Despite significant global changes, our approach remains steadfast.

We connect Denmark with the rest of the world. We lead the way in green transformation. We collaborate openly with the society around us. And we create attractive job opportunities.

Denmark’s Largest Commercial Port

The Port of Aarhus is Denmark's largest commercial port, and we have significant ambitions for the future. Maritime transport is more important than ever, particularly because it is often more efficient, competitive, and environmentally friendly.

With our central location in Denmark and excellent shipping connections to most parts of the world, a large portion of Danish imports and exports already pass through the port of Aarhus today.

In 2023, 6,954 ships visited the port of Aarhus, and 10,151,097 tons of goods were handled on the docks. Approximately 200 companies operate within the port area, and activities within the port area generate more than 17,000 jobs across Denmark. An analysis by the Confederation of Danish Industry shows that up to 10 percent of the value of Danish foreign trade passes through the port, amounting to a value of up to DKK 150 billion.

The ferry port serves more than 3 million passengers annually and around 1,300,000 passenger cars.

Since its establishment in 1845, the Port of Aarhus has developed alongside the city. Freight volumes have increased significantly over the past several decades. In just the last 10 years, total freight turnover has increased by 24 percent. However, for several years, the space has not kept pace, and companies require more quayside port areas to continue developing within and around the port.

Therefore, in 2018, the Port of Aarhus applied to the Aarhus City Council for approval for a port expansion – the establishment of Yderhavn. In 2023, a broad majority approved an agreement for the establishment of a total of 84 hectares over the next 30 years.
